Time for a new tactic

Well it looks as though another challenge to a gay marriage ban was shot down this morning in Washington State.

Unsurprisingly, the argument was similar to a recent decision made in New York state. Namely that the purpose of marriage is to promote procreation and provide homes for children. Since gay marriage doesn't do that, gays have no right to marriage.

I'm tired of begging the legislatures to give me my rights in the form of pathetic petitions or protests. I'm definitely through looking to the courts to enforce equal protection under the law. We need to come up with different tactics, ones that will show the world how contradictory and illogical these homophobic assholes are.

Here's an excerpt from today's majority opinion:

DOMA is constitutional because the legislature was entitled to believe that limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples furthers procreation, essential to survival of the human race, and furthers the well-being of children by encouraging families where children are reared in homes headed by the children’s biological parents. Allowing same-sex couples to marry does not, in the legislature’s view, further these purposes.

So by this logic, marriage is solely for procreation. In addition, the opinion states children raised in homes headed by the the child's biological parents is the ideal.

We need to start pushing for laws that make marriage between infertile couples illegal. I plan on posting details on how we can start to make this happen here in PA in the next few weeks, but if anybody from states like CA that allow ballot initiatives easily you need to get on that ASAP. Those 30 somethings who just aren't able to conceive a kid? Guess what, your marriage is worthless. Divorce immediately and look for different partners. Marriage is for procreation only, any other definition is unconstitutional.

Any lawyers out there? Contact me I'd love to lend energy to a lawsuit here in Pennsylvania.

I also think we should push to make divorce illegal. If children should only be raised in homes with two biological parents, why are divorces so easy to procure? Let these assholes remain trapped in loveless or abusive marriages for a while, we'll see how their view on marriage shifts.

Let's stop begging for our rights and start taking theirs using their own illogical arguments against them. I'm tired of this shit, aren't YOU?

I'm adopted, and you can imagine how this kind of rhetoric makes me feel -- it's sort of like how everyone nods and smiles approvingly when they hear all the stories of people who go through twenty rounds of increasingly-complex fertility treatments at ten grand and up a pop because they want "their own child." Like I'm not my parents' own child and the situation isn't "good enough" or something.

I think this ruling has more implications than just same-sex marriage, frankly, and I find it disturbing. Same-sex marriage is legal in this jurisdiction, and I probably have a different view on civil rights than you, but this ruling strikes me as yet another example of US law trying to legislate popular mores.

I'm not a US Con Law scholar, but I think it's playing more than a little jurisdictional knucklebones with several provisions there.

What these mental midgets don't foresee is how allowing the government to dictate that its in the state interest to promote "healthy families" and start defining what will benefit this goal opens a Pandora's Box.

If we can't allow two grown men to marry because its in the state's interest to promote procreation, why should we allow women over the age of 45 to marry?

If the "best family situation is having children raised by two biological parents" why not outlaw divorce.

Mandatory church attendance would promote healthy families as nothing is more wholesome for kids than that. Why don't we limit couples to two children only as smaller families are happier families.

That's the tact I'm suggesting the gay community take going forward. These arguments they're making are nonsensical, let's show that by applying this "logic" against these hateful assholes.

I am all for using these crazy arguments against the moralistic a-holes that actually subscribe to them. Lets follow where their logic leads...

It is very frustrating wish issues like these. 5 steps forward and 6 steps back. Are we going to see things change in our lifetime? I'm hopeful but it is unlikely since it is obvious that the Holy than tho assh*les - the other side, are really, REALY dumb. The only information and arguments than can come up with is what is fed to them by their leaders. Thats why they are called the FLock. So with that said - one of these days, Mr. ALT, lets just do it ourselves. Tie the knott, jump the broom, or whatever ceromony you wish, and just make it leagal between you and me. Forever yours!

Love, Mrs. ALT

Slovenia has legal marital rights for all, so does the Czech Republic. Yet the US struggles with her conscience about this one. . . .
